lightboxes

In 2010 the postGallery in south London offered me an exhibition. Rather than fill the space with paintings, I copied a Claude Lorrain painting across the large glass frontage, turning the gallery into a huge romantic landscape lit from within. No invigilation of the gallery was necessary; we only had to leave the lights on to show the image day and night. At the end of the show one of the gallerists commissioned me to paint the glass panel of an unwanted darkroom safelight. That commission was the beginning of a long series of safelight paintings.
